Wandering Toddler Nearly Hit By Car

Kids can get away from their parents in a heartbeat, and as we learned from the recent drowning of a toddler in a relative’s pool, tragedies can happen in a flash.

Fortunately, a report of a toddler wandering around Harding Avenue in a sleeper had a much better ending for the little girl involved.

Just before 6:30 p.m., a Harding Avenue neighbor said a toddler was walking around by herself and wandered into her driveway. The caller said she nearly hit the child.

Fortunately, an officer was on the street at the time and able to respond in less than a minute. When the officer arrived, the child’s frantic mother had already retrieved her.

The officer said the child had gotten out while she was doing the dishes and had gotten about half a block before her mother caught up with her.

The officer found the child’s home in good order, but noted that the lock on the front door was broken and had allowed the child to get away. They advised the mother to get it fixed ASAP.
