Wanted Man Swallows Drugs During Arrest

A wanted man was taken to the hospital after he swallowed drugs during an arrest and a man violates a protection order and chokes a woman on Walnut Street. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing. 

Hey! That’s My Stuff

Just after 2 am, a caller parked near Frank & Steins Lounge called to report a thief busted out the rear driver’s side window and took off with a Mac Book Air Computer. Police checked the area, but found nothing suspicious and ended up taking info for a report.

A caller reported the theft of a catalytic converter from a Timmonds Avenue vehicle just after 2 pm. An officer took information for a report. 

Closing Time

At 2:45 am, a 4th Street caller reported patrons of the Party Time Bar making a lot of noise in the parking lot after closing time. 

Officers arrested a woman for drunk and disorderly conduct and transported her to the Scioto County Jail.

Suspicious Activity

The BP on Gallia reported that a strange black van had been parked by the dumpster for two days with no sign of an owner. Police arranged for a tow at 7:43 am.

Pepsi Guy Down

EMS responded to a call at the Oasis Convenient Mart on 17th Street just after 8 am. A Pepsi employee hit their head in the backroom and was bleeding.

Double Trouble

A man found himself in two kinds of trouble after a High Street caller reported the guy was at his door threatening him just before 10 am. It turned out the man had an open warrant and he’d parked on yellow more than 12” from the curb. 

Plus, his tags expired back in May. Police took him into custody and arranged to have his vehicle towed.

Missing Person

A worried great-uncle contacted officers just after 10 am to report a missing relative. The person was last seen at a 6th Street residence.

Police took information for a report.

Walnut Street Assault

A caller reported a shirtless man with his hands around a woman’s throat on Walnut Street at 10:17 am. Police arrested the man for violating a protection order.

Panhandling Problem

Witnesses reported a man arguing with himself near Speedway on Gallia at 10:30 am. Police discovered the man was panhandling for cash to buy a phone charger. They sent him on his way. 

Suspect Swallows Drugs

At 12:30, a probation officer asked police to check the alley for a man with an open warrant.  

Three officers responded to the scene and took the man into custody. He confessed to police that he’d just swallowed drugs. 

Officers had his vehicle towed and took him to the hospital. His probation officer met him there and stayed with the guy until he was released.
