Warrants Served in Animal Neglect Investigation

We told you last week about an animal neglect investigation on Cramer Road. The property owners refused to let humane agents and deputies on the land to investigate. Officers said they would have to get a warrant, and they finally got one.

The focus of that investigation was the Shawnee Humane Society’s humane agent and directors Joshua and Kathi Jo McAlister. Joshua McAlister discussed the incident exclusively with SCDN last week to claim he had been unfairly targeted by a deputy and a humane agent who were after their expensive dogs. “They wanted our dogs for their personal use because they knew one’s pregnant.”

The other humane agent vehemently denied those allegations and showed images of a horse on the McAlister property that appeared to be in rough physical shape and photos of dogs with overgrown nails living in unsanitary pens.

On Monday evening, the dog warden, humane agents, and sheriff’s deputies headed back to Cramer Road to serve warrants to check on the animals.

They also had an order to retrieve the horse and transport it to Shawnee Animal Clinic. Officers were also apparently looking for the McCalisters but were unable to find them at the time.

SCDN has followed this ongoing story from the start. We will continue to monitor and update as more details are able to be made public.
