What Do Scioto County Commissioners Earn & How Does It Compare to Other Counties?

We’ve recently had readers ask about how much money county commissioners earn.  Let’s take a look at how much commissioners make and how their salary is determined.

Commissioners Bryan Davis, Cathy Coleman, and Scottie Powell each earn $71,096 yearly. In Ohio, county commissioners are the head administrators of the county. They are in charge of budgets, appropriations, and purchasing as well as transactions involving county property.

How do their salaries stack up to other counties in the region? Lawrence County Commissioners earn $68, 671 yearly while Adams County Commissioners pull down $54,939 and Jackson County Commissioners make $56, 878.  Pike County commissioners have salaries ranging between $48,974 and $51,423.  Pickaway County commissioners also earn $71,096 yearly.  However, those salaries are much lower than commissioners in some counties. Franklin County Commissioners earn $118,407 yearly.  Hamilton County Commissioners earl $111, 495. Delaware County pays $98,563. Lucas county Commissioners make $107,692.

So, what’s behind their pay rate? It turns out that amount is set by state legislators in HB 296 and based on the population of the county.  Commissioners in counties with a population between 55,0001 and 95,000 made $71,096 and their compensation will increase in 2024 to $72,340.
