Why should I visit Portsmouth, Ohio this fall?

It’s October, which means I’ll be heading back to Southern Ohio. The Appalachians there have been as pretty and scenic as I remember them to be. And though I’ve been away, I know how special this place still is. There are miles and miles of trails here, some through state parks and some within the Shawnee Forest, so you can hike anywhere in the county.

At the most basic, walking through nature is healing. It’s an escape, an introspective, introvert. I took the time to enjoy my surroundings and reflect on my day. And if you’re on vacation, you can meet interesting people.  There are so many amazing souls in Portsmouth, Ohio.

There are multiple ways to get to Portsmouth, Ohio. Travel outside of your comfort zone, forget the highways. Take the back roads. That’s what I do, and it’s one of the best things about travel.

Also, check out Portsmouth, Ohio on Airbnb. There are some interesting finds that can really make your trip more enjoyable!

I guess I should tell you that I’m not affiliated with Airbnb or any of these properties. I don’t stand to make a dime. This is just to let you know how to enjoy this, often forgotten, part of our state.
Even if you live in Scioto County (like most of my family) you can travel just 10 miles in about any direction and feel like you’ve gone 1,000. That’s how diverse the county is. It is a wonderful place that’s worth a look during your plans this fall.
