Woman Arrested 100th Birthday Ruth Bryant

When Ruth Bryant reached her centennial birthday, she had an interesting request. Bryant wanted to cross an item off of her bucket list on this special day, and that item happened to be that she wanted to be arrested.

Bryant is a resident of Roxboro, North Carolina, and was living in an assisted living facility when she decided she wanted to go to jail. Luckily for Bryant, the Person County Sheriff’s Office was willing to help her complete her wish.

When Bryant’s birthday rolled around, she was surrounded by her friends and family when two deputies showed up to serve her a warrant. She was charged with “indecent exposure” by the deputies. None of Bryant’s party guests had been told what was going to happen, including her daughter, Marian Oakley.

Bryant was the only one in on the joke, but she didn’t cut the deputies any slack and acted like any other uncooperative arrestee. Between playfully kicking the deputies and complaining about the seats in the police car, Bryant certainly played her role convincingly.

Once Bryant arrived at the jailhouse, she received the same treatment as a usual criminal, which included getting mugshots taken and spending a few minutes in a jail cell. She also received an orange shirt with “Person County Jail” written on it.

Bryant was able to leave the jail after she paid bail, which for her was hugging the chief jailer. After she left, she went back to her home to celebrate in a more traditional way, with cake to celebrate her recent arrest.
