Woman Charged with Attempted Murder & Kidnapping

A young woman sits in the Scioto County Jail on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, felonious assault, and aggravated burglary.

Officers booked Shelby Broughton into the jail around 11:45 pm on Wednesday evening.  There’s been no official word from law enforcement if her arrest is connected to the stabbing of a young man near the New Boston Walmart.  According to a fundraiser set up to aid the victim, he was lured to the shopping center to help a young woman in need to buy shoes. Then, a group of people attacked him in an attempt to rob him and steal his car.

The car is reportedly a Tesla and is being held pending the complete investigation.

SCDN has spoken to a source familiar with the incident who says at least 3 other juveniles may have been arrested in connection with this case.

According to scanner traffic, the victim drove himself to SOMC and was later airlifted to Columbus for surgery. New Boston Police spent several hours securing video from multiple businesses in the shopping center.

The sheriff’s reports indicate BCI was called to investigate. SCDN contacted New Boston Police for more information, but they refused to provide any details, saying there would eventually be a press release.
