Portsmouth police arrested a woman on a child endangering charge after an early-morning call from 5th Street involving a child custody disturbance.

Officers were called just before 4 a.m. after a woman reported people were arguing inside a home and had tried to take her child from her.

Police investigated at the scene and later read Miranda rights.

Officers took Kaylee Cubbage into custody.

Cubbage was booked into the Scioto County Jail on a charge of endangering a child by administering corporal punishment.

According to the police log, officers attempted to contact the after-hours Children Services callout service but were unable to get an answer and left a message.

Cubbage appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court and was released on her own recognizance.

A pretrial hearing was set for Sept. 21.

The charge is an allegation. Cubbage is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
