A kind-hearted deputy helped out a woman in need. A West Portsmouth resident contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office just before 5 pm to claim her caretaker had locked her in.
She said the person got angry with her and locked the fence on her property, and she was unable to leave to go to a doctor’s appointment.
When deputies arrived at the home, they learned the caretaker was a friend of hers who was living rent-free in a home she owned. The woman seemed unhappy with her caretaker but wanted to do everything she could to prevent going into assisted living. She admitted she wasn’t sure if the caretaker had locked the gate or if the remote just wasn’t working.
She said a home health aid was coming from SOMC the next day, but she found the process of getting a caretaker to be difficult. Additionally, the woman complained that her bed was wet, and her caretaker had not changed the sheets to allow her to go to bed.
The officers assisted the woman in changing her sheets and made sure her door was securely locked. A neighbor also came down to offer the woman help with her gate.
