Woman Claims Ex Threatened to Kill Her Family—Man Says He Wasn’t Even There

A woman told deputies her longtime boyfriend threatened to slit her throat, kill their children, and burn her sister alive during a terrifying confrontation. But when investigators checked his story, they found what appeared to be a solid alibi. The case remains under investigation. A woman met with deputies to report a series of alleged threats and acts of violence involving her boyfriend of 22 years. According to her statement, the trouble began after she walked into a bathroom at his mother's home and found him talking to another woman on the phone. She said when she asked who he was speaking with, he became enraged. The woman alleged he shoved her from the bathroom, slammed the door, and threatened to cut her throat as well as the throats of their children. She also claimed he threatened to burn her sister alive. According to the report, she told deputies the argument continued outside, where he allegedly struck her vehicle while threatening to kill her. She further alleged he forced her to drive him to another woman's home in Ashland so she could apologize to the woman he was seeing. Fearing for her safety, she said she complied before eventually leaving him there. She also claimed he had been using methamphetamine. The following day, the woman said she spotted the man arriving for work at Walmart in South Point with the woman she believed to be his new girlfriend. She confronted the pair in the parking lot, yelling that he was a meth user and telling the other woman she could have him. Deputies obtained a written statement and criminal affidavit before speaking with the accused man. His version of events was dramatically different. According to the report, the man told investigators he had been working the overnight shift at Walmart until 7 a.m. on the day of the alleged incident. After work, he said he walked to Murphy's Gas Station, where his girlfriend picked him up around 7:30 a.m. He told deputies they then drove to her home in Ashland, Kentucky, where they remained with other family members until returning to work the following evening. The Walmart store manager reportedly confirmed the man's overnight work schedule and told deputies he routinely left work with the woman. Investigators also interviewed the girlfriend separately. She provided a timeline that closely matched the man's account and told deputies other family members could verify they remained at her home throughout the day. She also described the confrontation outside Walmart, saying the complainant was waiting for them and began yelling as they arrived for work. Because the accused man was not in the area during the investigation, the complainant had no visible injuries, and investigators noted inconsistencies between the statements, deputies did not make an arrest. A written statement was also obtained from the girlfriend. The investigation remains open pending any additional evidence or review by prosecutors. When accounts conflict, investigators often seek independent evidence such as witness statements, surveillance footage, text messages, phone records, work records, or physical injuries to help determine what occurred. In this case, deputies documented statements from all involved parties but concluded additional investigation was necessary before pursuing criminal charges.
