A woman called 9-1-1 to report her neighbor had opened fire on her and her child while she was walking her dog. She said the neighbor was hiding in the woodline but that she’d safely made it home.
Dispatch advised her to get behind a brick wall in the home and wait for officers. Deputies responded to a home on County Road 5 in Pedro.
Officers set up a perimeter and cautiously approached the home of the neighbor, asking the woman to please come out. They noted this was not the first time neighbors have reported the woman firing shots and that she usually keeps a handgun on her porch.
Police attempted to cuff the woman, but noted that she resisted and grabbed onto a pole on the porch, refusing to let go. Officers deployed a stun gun and cuffed the woman.
Police impounded her weapon and took her phone and trail camera into evidence. She exercised her right to remain silent, and officers took her into custody.
Incredibly, at nearly exactly the same time in Southpoint, a woman told officers someone opened fire when she and her children stepped out of their vehicle in Southpoint.
Other witnesses also reported gunfire coming from a man’s trailer. They were informed the man had been drinking and his son-in-law had asked about the gun. The man grabbed his gun and then shot it a few times near a dumpster.
When officers spoke to him, he admitted he’d been drinking. He said his son-in-law wanted to borrow the gun for protection, and he’d opened fire to show him how it worked. Deputies booked him into the Lawrence County Jail.
