Woman Found Dead on 16th Street – Hazmat Team Called In

body

A tragic discovery at a hazardous home on 16th Street in West Portsmouth. Just before 4 pm, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office headed to a home for a welfare check.

No one had been able to contact the resident since June 24, despite several cases where officers went to the home. Officers finally were able to get assistance from Adult Protective Services and entered the home, where they found a deceased woman and multiple dogs inside the home.

Deputies contacted the coroner but said that the home was in such bad shape they required a breathing apparatus and possibly a shovel from the fire department. The Rush Fire Department decided a hazmat team was the best option.

First responders suited up in hazmat gear to assist the coroner. The Dog Warden took custody of the dogs. Eventually, the coroner took possession of the deceased.
