Woman Rampages with Hoe and Knife at Church of Christ

A woman went on a rampage with a garden hoe and a knife at a church and put up one heck of a fight when deputies tried to take her into custody. The call came in just before 7 pm, and witnesses reported an aggressive woman with a garden hoe causing trouble near the Church of Christ in Chesapeake, Ohio. When a deputy arrived on the scene, two men said Melissa Legrand had busted a glass door to get into the church and was now inside, still armed with the hoe. A deputy searched the church for the woman and found her in the kitchen. The officer ordered the woman to get on the ground while holding a TASER on her, but the woman refused. When an officer ordered her to put her hands behind her back because she was under arrest, she responded that she wasn’t going to. The deputy holstered the TASER and attempted to cuff the woman, but she resisted. One of the men on the scene attempted to help the officer, and the deputy was finally able to take her down and restrain her. While the deputy attempted to put her into the patrol car, she hit her head on the back passenger door. The officer reported she was kicking and screaming and talking to someone who wasn’t there. An officer transported the woman to the Lawrence County jail while other officers recovered evidence from the scene, spoke to witnesses, and took photos of the damage. Officers found the hoe as well as a large kitchen knife that had been taken out of the kitchen. They also recovered the suspect’s purse which contained mail belonging to the church. This woman with a hoe was so active that we didn't have time to publish the first instance of her bizarre actions before this new incident finally saw her taken into custody. Here is the first article that preceded these events. Hoe Attacks Plague Neighborhood Deputies are investigating a series of vandalism incidents believed to involve a hoe. They originally responded to a report that someone had busted out the four windows of a woman’s work van parked in the driveway of her Chesapeake home. Despite thousands of dollars of equipment in the vehicle, nothing was stolen. Officers were called back to the area a few hours later for a report of a disturbance. The woman said as she was leaving for work, a neighbor came to the end of her driveway waving a hoe. She asked the neighbor if she was the one who broke out the windows, and the neighbor admitted it and began talking about aliens. Another neighbor confirmed he heard the woman admit to breaking the windows and the couple’s landlord told officers the same woman busted a window out of another rental property she owns with a hoe and was arrested for that incident. Officers tried to speak to the hoe-wielding woman, but she refused to come to the door.
