Woman Sets Up Camp on Railroad Tracks

Train 11

We’ve told you again and again about the dangers of homeless campers in the Portsmouth area. Recent efforts to curb the issue with new legislation were put on hold by Portsmouth City Council.   This weekend, a woman decided to set up her bed in a very dangerous place.

A caller called PPD at about 8:30 pm to report a person lying next to the railroad tracks on Gallia. They said the person was covered up with a blanket and had a lantern hanging from a nearby tree.

When officers spoke to the woman, she said she didn’t know it was illegal to be on the tracks. She agreed to take her things and leave the area without incident.
