Woman Shot Dead in Dog Argument
A local woman is dead, and witnesses say it all happened because of an argument over a dog.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a Chesapeake apartment complex just after 3 pm on Sunday.
When deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and EMS personnel arrived on the scene, they found a woman lying in the parking lot.
EMS personnel began to treat the woman while deputies spoke to witnesses. Witnesses said the woman got into an argument with her downstairs neighbor over a dog. The man then pulled a gun and shot the woman. After the incident, he fled the scene in a gray SUV.
The Coroner’s Office pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family. The incident remains under investigation.
