Vanceburg, KY. (May 12, 2021) – On May 11, 2021, at approximately 6:17 am Kentucky State Police, Post 8, Morehead received a call for assistance from the Lewis County Dispatch with a three-vehicle fatal collision. The collision occurred on KY 9 in Vanceburg.
Through the investigation, investigators determined:
- Triston Burriss, 20 years of age from Vanceburg was operating a Chrysler 200 traveling north on KY 9.
- Mr. Burriss attempted to pass a Chevy Traverse being operated by Shelley L. Neal, 53 years of age from Iowa.
- When Mr. Burriss attempted to pass the Traverse, he struck a Ford Fusion being operated by Gaven Grayson, 25 years of age from Vanceburg.
Triston Burriss was pronounced deceased by Lewis County Coroner Tony Gaydos at the scene.
Gaven Grayson was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Shelley Neal and her passengers refused treatment at the scene.
Kentucky State Police was assisted by Vanceburg Fire and Resue, Lewis County EMS, Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, and Lewis County Coroner’s Office.
This collision remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police, Morehead.
