Pompatus

Pompatus was coined by Steve Miller in his 1973 song “The Joker.” It was most likely a throwback to some unique word creation for a song called “The Letter” by the Medallions in 1954.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

This song made trivia history. The song is titled “In The Garden Of Eden”. During the studio recording, the band was….into the groove. Lead singer Doug Ingle slurred the words and the band went on to record a 17-minute unrehearsed jam. Most producers would have stopped the band and kicked them out. However, producer Richard Podolor just let them go. What followed is one of the most iconic and epic songs in music history.

“Louie Louie”

Now we look at some famous tunes that were BANNED because people couldn’t understand the words. Completely acceptable lyrics but radio stations refused to play them.

Lola

Banned because of the reference to Coca-Cola. It was considered as advertising for the drink. The band was forced to return to the studio and change the lyrics to “Cherry Cola” in order to get radio play.

Wake Up Little Susie

A young couple goes on a date and falls asleep. They wake up at 4 am. No sex, no implications of sex. Just falling asleep. The Roman Catholic Church of Boston was up in arms. What happened before they fell asleep? Why were they so tired? They made huge waves for this fun, innocent classic song.

Achy Breaky
