First responders answered three COVID-related emergency calls in just one hour and investigated a report of a body on Summit Street. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
- Just before 1 am, officers responded to Deemer’s Auto Service on 11 th Street for a report of a catalytic converter cut off a customer’s vehicle on the lot.
- At 2 pm, a citizen contacted officers to report possibly stolen credit cards.
- Just after 6 pm, a man got his stolen motorcycle back. A friend spotted it by the side of the road and stopped to check the VIN. He picked it up and brought it back to his pal. Police do not know who originally took the bike.
Domestic Disturbance
- A woman contacted police at 1:06 p to complain that the father of her child was videotaping her. Police advised the woman on the process of filing a protection order. They explained to the man that he was no longer allowed at the woman’s home and explained the process of how to file for custody.
- Neighbors reported a man and woman arguing in a 17th Street apartment. Police took the man into custody.
- Just before 8 pm, witnesses reported a man and woman physically fighting on Gallia Street. Three units responded to the scene. Police took both parties into custody.
COVID Concerns
- First responders received a call about an elderly woman with COVID who’d recently been released from the hospital who was unable to eat and kept vomiting at 1 pm.
- At 1:30 pm, they responded to another report of a different elderly woman with COVID who was dehydrated.
- Twenty minutes later, the Health Department called to the rescue squad to pick up a third COVID-positive patient who couldn’t breathe and was dehydrated and confused.
- EMS personnel responded to the Royal Inn at 11:56 pm for a report of a COVID-positive patient who was very dizzy and having trouble breathing.
Trouble at the Dollar Tree
Officers responded to the Dollar Tree on 5th Street for a report of a woman causing a problem. She left the area before officers arrived.
Woman Found Dead on Sycamore Street
Just after 3 pm, a caller discovered a deceased woman on Sycamore Street. Several units responded to the scene and contacted the coroner.
Police determined there was no criminal activity involved and the coroner transported the deceased.
Under The Influence
- Officers responded to a report of an overdose on Vinton Avenue at 3:04 pm. Medics from the PFD treated the man and released him to his family.
- Police answered another overdose call at a High Street home at 7:30 pm They also left that man with his family.
- Officers responded to a report of a man passed out on the laundry room floor at the 16th Street Apartments. He was gone by the time police arrived, but officers did impound some property discovered on the scene.
Welfare Check
Officers stood by to offer support to Children Services while they performed a welfare check at a 16th Street home Just before 4 pm.
Trashing Greenlawn
Just after 4 pm, a caller reported a woman throwing trash all around Greenlawn Cemetery. Police detained the woman determined she was having mental health issues. An ambulance transported her to SOMC.
