A Sheriff’s Office dispatcher was “allowed to resign in lieu of being fired and charged with theft.” A source within the department reports that the Dispatcher would arrive at work and leave during her shifts.
Her supervisors noticed that she was frequently absent from work, audited her time cards, and found that she had never claimed any leave.
Based on the reports, “she was being paid full time while only working part-time, which is theft from Scioto County taxpayers.” The Dispatcher was permitted to resign and part of her last paycheck was withheld as partial repayment.
SCDN contacted Sheriff David Thoroughman regarding this matter. As of now, the Sheriff has not confirmed the employee’s identity with the name we provided.
*Publisher’s Note: A response from him would be unusual since this is an internal human resources issue. As such, we understand his position if he chooses not to make a public statement.
The attention to detail and holding employees accountable are encouraging characteristics of the leadership within the department.
