The City of Portsmouth is searching for a new police dispatcher. If you want the job, you are required to take a civil service exam. Here are the important details:
The Pay
Pay for the dispatcher position starts at $12.63 per hour. After a probationary period of 120 days for full-timers and 960 hours for part-timers, pay increases to $13.77.
The city offers a benefits package and part-timers get first consideration for new full-time positions. According to the job posting, the police union is currently in negotiation with the city, and pay increases are expected.
Who Can Apply?
The qualifications are pretty simple. You must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
How To Apply
To apply, click this link, or head over to www.portsmouthoh.org and look under the Applications Tab. Click on the link to the civil service exam. You can then fill in on the computer and print it off. Also, you can choose to print it off and fill the application out in ink.
To submit your application, submit it to the Office of the City Solicitor at 728 Second Street, Room 22. You can:
- Mail it via the US Postal Service
- Drop it off in Person
- Fax to 740-353-0136
Applications may be dropped off in person between the hours of 7 am and noon on the following days:
- June 24 – June 26, 2020
- June 29 – July 2, 2020
The Exam
The Civil Service Exam will be held on July 10 at 1 pm at the Scioto County Welcome Center on Second Street.
Applicants must arrive by 12:45 pm. Photo IDs are required. Masks are required and social distancing measures will be in place.
Veterans Credit
Ohio Veterans who pass the test get an extra 20% added to their score. Veterans must present proof of an honorable discharge prior to the deadline for application. Attach a completed DD-214 form to the application. The form must be complete.
