Frantic Search For Missing Kids

1. Masked Intruder

A man called from the Royal Inn at 3:45 am to say a stranger in a mask knocked on his door and threatened him. The caller did not believe the mask wearing was connected to COVID-19.

The caller admitted he’d been drinking heavily and wanted to report drug activity in another room.  Police checked the room but found it empty with the curtain wide open.

2. Car Trouble

At 3:51 am, a caller from Findlay Manor reported two boys under her car. She said they ran off down the alley. Officers said nothing appeared to be missing.

She caked back at 4:46 am with the same information. She claimed the boys went into an apartment in the building. Officers checked with the resident who said there was nobody there. She allowed police to check.  The woman speculated the caller might be on ‘ice’ and hallucinating. The pair used to date and the police have been called out before to deal with their issues.

Officer said there appeared to be no damage to the vehicle.

The same woman called back at 10:45 pm that evening. She reported something stolen from underneath her vehicle. Officers checked her vehicle for the fourth time in a day and found nothing wrong.

3. Domestic Issues

A Chillicothe Street man called police at 4:40 am to report his wife had been hitting him. She told police she did not hit him but they did argue. Officers saw no sign of a physical altercation but did speak with both parties.

4. Holiday Inn Break-In

Another car break-in at the Holiday Inn on 2^nd Street. Someone busted the back window out a gray F150 and took items. Missing was a compound bow and 7 arrows.

5. Hey! That’s My Stuff

• A 17^th Street woman called police at 5:02 pm and reported her ex violated a protection order and stole her vehicle. Police took information for a report.
• At 5:44 pm, a caller reported seeing a man steal items from a blue van in the parking lot of the Dollar General. It turned out the man had permission from the van’s owner to be inside.
• Police responded to a report of a vehicle break-in at Frank & Stein’s Lounge at 8:42 pm. Officers took information for a report.
• The Dollar General on Harding reported a pair of shoplifters just before 10 pm. The clerk reported the male half of the duo threatened her. The employee knew the suspects by site and there was video of the incident. Police took information for a report.
• Another vehicle break-in, this time at the Portsmouth Players club at 10:30 pm. Police took information for a report.

6. Under the Influence

• A woman flagged down an officer on Wayne Avenue to report someone inside their apartment who wasn’t supposed to be there. It turned out the guy was the boyfriend of the children’s mother who was in the process of overdosing.  An ambulance took him to SOMC for treatment. It turned out there were active warrants for the man.
• Officers assisted a crew from Portsmouth Ambulance who reported people on Waller Street were attempting to fight with them. An intoxicated man changed his mind about medical assistance and wanted to stay with friends and watch a football game.

7. Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Officers answered a call to Spring Street for a report of people who showed up to fight with the residents. Police took several people into custody.

8. Help Needed

A patient of Portsmouth Health and Rehabilitation repeatedly calling 911 asking for help. She said no staff is answering the phone there.

An officer made contact with employees who said they would go check on her.

9. Parking Crackdown

Police continued their crackdown on handicapped parking violations in Wayne Hills. AT 3:35 and 3:53 pm, they cited vehicles on Kendall and Wayne Avenue.

10. Angry Ex

At 8 pm, a 19^th Street woman reported her ex came to her house and busted out a window. She positively identified the man from a photo. Officers took information for a report.

11. Kids Go Missing

A scary couple of hours after two children went missing from a backyard just before 6 pm. The back gate was open and there was no sign of the children.

Police frantically searched checking addresses where the kids might have gone and checking video at Oasis Convenience Mart and Sunset Lanes for any sign of the children passing by.

They discovered a video of the kids walking towards Wayne Hills with their dog.  The children were finally located at a Timmonds Avenue resident.

It turned out one child talked the other into leaving in an attempt to go visit their biological mother. Police contacted Children Services who said they would follow up later.

12. Runaway Son

Another child went missing at 6:15. This time from Jackson Avenue. The boy got angry with his sister and ran off from his home with no shirt on. Police located him about 10 minutes later and took him home.

13. Unwelcome Guest With COVID

A man called the police at 10:55 pm to report a woman showed up at his mother’s home and refused to leave. The mom doesn’t want the woman there. He also said she had COVID.

The woman signed out of Portsmouth Health and Rehab AMA and they refused to admit her back. The Fire Department transported her to the hospital for treatment.

14. Armed Homeowner Runs Off Intruder

A Baird Avenue caller told police a man broke his fence just after 11 pm. The homeowner said he caught the man in his yard and advised him he had a gun.

Once the stranger heard that, he jumped the fence and ran off. He found clothing belonging to the suspect in his yard.
