A woman caught with several bags of weed gladly handed it over to an officer plus police revived an overdose victim. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Officer, Take My Weed, Please
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in York Park at 2:33 am. Police discovered women sitting in the vehicle and detected a strong smell of marijuana.
The women admitted smoking weed and one suspect handed over a baggie of pot to an officer and said, “You can have it.”
The ladies allowed police to search the vehicle. Officers discovered two additional baggies of marijuana. Police impounded the drugs and advised the women about misdemeanor charges. They allowed the women to contact a sober friend to drive them home.
Suspicious Activity
- At 3 am, a 14th Street caller told police a man was yelling and attempted to put his hands on her. When police responded to the scene, they could not locate the woman.
- Just after 4 am, a Kendall Avenue caller reported two men in dark clothing under a vehicle. The caller said the guys later walked into Wayne Hills. Police could not locate the men.
- At 3 pm, a Findlay Street caller reported a man with no shoes or shirt screaming and yelling. Officers made contact with a man they see almost every day and advised him to calm down.
- At 4:28 pm, officers received reports of the same man becoming aggressive with customers at Arby’s. Police asked him to move on.
Parking Crackdown
Police continued their parking crackdown on Franklin Avenue addressing complaints of vehicles parked on the sidewalk of the 1200 – 1300 block. Officers issued two citations and impounded a vehicle.
Police cited a vehicle parked in a yellow zone on Kendall Avenue at 7:53 am.
Grand Theft Auto
At 9 am, a Findlay Avenue caller reported their 1993 Ford Ranger stolen sometime overnight. The caller said the vehicle had a full tank of gas and they keys were in the ignition.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
- An Auburn Avenue caller reported an attempted break-in at their back door just before 9 am.
- At 10:47 am, a Pleasant Avenue caller reported a bike stolen off a porch on Pleasant Avenue.
- A caller alerted police to a stolen iPhone at 1:40 pm. The phone’s owner said the phone was pinging at a Winchester Avenue residence. Officers took information for a report.

Under The Influence
- The 17th Street Homeless Shelter asked police to remove a man who became drunk and belligerent. Police said the man was nice enough to them and said he’d go to a hotel and come back to get his stuff when he’s sober. Police transported him to the Four Keys Inn.
- Several units responded to an accident at the Kroger Gas station at 1:21 pm. Police said the driver was unsteady on their feet and unable to remember directions. The woman refused to take an OVI test. Officers took her into custody.
- Officers responded to High Street at 7:23 pm for a report of an apparently high woman attempting to sell people things from her cart. The woman fled the scene when officers arrived.
- Police answered a report of an overdosed woman on Royce Street at 9:09 pm. The caller said the woman’s lips were turning purple. Portsmouth Ambulance responded to the scene with police, however, the woman refused treatment.
- At 11:09, a caller reported an unconscious man in a vehicle at 16th and Waller. An officer revived the man with Narcan and then took him into custody. Police impounded the vehicle.
Domestic Violence
A Mabert Road woman contacted police at 3:30 pm to report that her boyfriend put his hands on her. An officer took the man into custody.
I’m Fine, I Just Need My Unemployment
Ohio Pandemic alerted police to an issue with a Portsmouth man they were on the phone with. Around 5:35 pm, they claimed the man had threatened to harm himself.
Officers checked on him at home. He said he was fine and had not threatened to harm himself. He’d only told the Unemployment Office he was going to starve to death because it was taking so long to get payments. He thanked officers for checking on him.
Train Yard Trauma
At 8:24 pm, officers responded to a report of an apparently high shirtless man near the Fishbowl on Campbell. The man ran northbound and ended up at the train yard. Officers took him into custody but he was apparently in pretty bad shape as he had to be intubated and hospitalized.
Driver’s Education
Just before midnight, police responded to reports of kids riding dirt bikes up and down the road on Spring Street.
Officers caught up with the bikers on Grant Street and gave all of them and their parents a stern educational lesson about riding off-road bikes on the street.
