A woman having a mental health crisis prompted multiple calls to police on Monday. Just after 3 pm, an officer spotted a woman running on Waller Street. She told people she was running from her husband but said she had not been assaulted in any way. She just wanted to stay away from him.
She asked to go to Shawnee Mental Health, and an officer gave her a ride.
Around 8 pm that evening, an 11th Street caller reported a “messed-up” woman lying in the street. Police discovered it was the woman they spoke with earlier.
She was not intoxicated, but the officer noted she was having a mental health crisis. She’d already visited Shawnee Mental Health and SOMC for treatment.
Police said she seemed able to care for herself, so they let her go.
Homeless Woman Begs Police to Arrest Her
Portsmouth Police Officers had a pretty unusual experience on Monday morning. A homeless woman attempted to turn herself in on warrants.
However, she didn’t have any open warrants. Since she is currently barred from the homeless shelter, she asked officers to arrest her even though she hadn’t committed any crimes.
She told police she didn’t feel safe and that someone was following her. She requested the police get her some help for mental health issues and they called for an ambulance. The ambulance transported her to SOMC.

Squad Responds After Drugs Make Woman Act Like a Demon
Everyone knows that drugs can be the devil, and one West Portsmouth family called the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office when it induced bizarre behavior in a family member.
A worried mom reported an overdose just after midnight. She said her daughter’s lips had turned blue and she was thrashing around like she was in the middle of an exorcism.
First responders were cautioned that the woman could be violent. However, it turned out the woman wasn’t actually overdosing, just very high.
Medics determined she did not need to go to the hospital.
