Mother of Missing Teen Talks to SCDN with New Details
It has been 72 hours since Shane Addington, 15 years old, was reported missing. SCDN spoke exclusively to Shane’s mother, Jamey Addington.
Jamey Addington said, “All of our possible leads that we had have pretty well been checked and extinguished.”
The Portsmouth Police Department reports that Shane is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed teenager who has not been seen since Friday.
Portsmouth Police responded to the Jackson Ave residence on Saturday at 2:48 pm. They were informed that Shane had left home the previous evening and had not returned home.
Officers began the search for the missing teen, including checking out a report he might be at a 6th Street home.
A police officer arrived at a residence on 6th Street about an hour later. In the police report, a female informed them that she had not seen Shane. According to her, she didn’t know him at all.
We asked Ms. Addington about possible new friends or chats on social media and even gaming systems.
According to her, his social media was primarily Snapchat. They had his username but not the password to open the account. She said that information was given to the police. Shane’s other social media and gaming chats were on a shared account. Addington said, those have “been combed through with a fine tooth comb, and (the) only communication on there has been what my husband does.”
Shane Meets the Mayor
On Monday morning, Portsmouth Mayor Sean Dunne made a statement on social media. “After talking to Shane and other kids at (the) 14th street community center, I invited them to Shawnee State to attend a talk I was giving. Shane came along, and it sounded like he really enjoyed the experience of being on campus.”
What others are saying about Shane
There have been hundreds of messages expressing sorrow and sympathy for the family, as well as personal messages sent to Shane.
Briana Tudor-Brown said, “He’s a great kid, buys burgers from the bar regularly, and is always great to us. I really hope he makes his way back home soon”.
Brittany Ashley Coon coined the hashtag #ComeHomeShane
Stephine Vickroy made an emotional plea. “I hope my sweet nephew is okay, Shane plz head home to ur momma n dad n ur brothers lord plz b with my nephew Shane right now n guide him back home, Shane we r all worried about u, aunt Steph”
Where does the investigation stand at the moment?
We asked Jamey Addington if her son has access to money. She says he does not. We asked if he had any medical conditions that require medication. She says he does not.
“We are just hoping that we can get his picture and face and everything out to as many people as we possibly can and hopefully somebody will start coming out with where he may be at”.
Ohio BCI has issued a statewide alert to all law enforcement about Shane.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has not issued an alert.
The family is currently trying to get flyers printed and hopes to assemble a team of volunteers to help pass them out.
Update 12/20/2022
Police Search Residence in Hunt for Missing Child
Officers received permission from a Portsmouth resident to search their home as part of the search for a missing child.
Police looked through the home and also went through the resident’s phone with their permission.
During that search of the phone, they located a picture and a “suspicious text.”
Officers did not locate any sign of the missing child.
Then, officers went to a residence on Charles St. The person they were looking for was not home. The occupant was advised to contact the police when they returned.
Update 12/21/2022
Just after 12:30 pm, the Portsmouth Police Department announced that Shane had been located and was safe. However, that did not mean he was home with family.
Jamey Addington told SCDN that her husband went to the police station to get Shane but did not return for some time. Addington said, “I was trying to get a shower when my husband left to go to Shane. I can’t find Shane.”
Later in the day, we asked if Shane was permitted to return home. She said, “Yes, thank God.”
Police, in this case, took every lead seriously and did everything in their power to find this young man.
Thankfully, the family is reunited this evening.
