An eagle-eyed Subway employee noticed a customer in a crisis and may have averted a tragedy. Just after 1 pm, a restaurant employee contacted PPD to report that a regular was acting oddly. He said the man had been sitting in his car for almost four hours talking to himself.
When police arrived on the scene, they found a man showing signs of altered mental status. The man told them about a voice in his head and spoke about a gun. Officers did not find one on the man.
He agreed to go to the hospital for treatment, and officers checked his vehicle. They discovered a handgun on the floorboard. Police impounded the weapon for safekeeping, and the restaurant said it was okay if the vehicle remained parked on the lot.
