Scioto County Commissioners praised the efforts of the Scioto County Dog Shelter to find homes for homeless animals and expressed hope for a zero-kill future.
According to Commissioner Bryan Davis, the shelter took in thirteen dogs on Tuesday and is nearing capacity. He praised the social media efforts by the shelter to let people know that animals are available for adoption, saying that awareness is crucial. “People need to know they can go get a dog there. There’s been a lot of rescues lately.”
Commissioners said they were pleased with the progress the dog shelter has made towards becoming a top-notch facility. “We’re real happy about seeing there’s been a lot of progress at the dog shelter. We’re seeing a lot of positive results.”
Davis said the long-term goal is to become a no-kill shelter. “Our goal is to become a zero kill shelter. That’s hard. Unfortunately, some dogs are just so damaged mentally that it’s not possible.”
On their Facebook page today, the shelter reminded dog owners to get County dog tags as it makes it easier to locate owners if animals get lost. The shelter also asked that anyone missing a dog, please post it on the shelter’s page or call the shelter at 740-353-8802. Owners were also reminded that there are fees for claiming a lost dog, dependent on how long your dog has been in the shelter and whether or not you have tags.
