A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 2:33 PM, involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle. The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol swiftly responded to the incident, which unfolded on State Route 32 at Tennyson Rd.
The accident took the life of Deborah L. Crabtree, 40, of Lucasville. The preliminary investigation revealed that Crabtree while attempting to cross State Route 32 from Tennyson Rd, failed to yield the right-of-way to an eastbound semi-truck on State Route 32. The collision resulted in fatal injuries for Ms. Crabtree, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Additionally, passengers Tiffany Byrd and Cassandra Bowe (Byrd) suffered injuries in the crash. Tiffany Byrd was airlifted from the scene by HealthNet, while Cassandra Bowe (Byrd) was flown via MedFlight to receive medical attention for the injuries sustained during the accident.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol led the response to the incident and received valuable assistance from various agencies, including the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Portsmouth Ambulance, Elm Grove Fire Department, Benton Township Fire Department, Piketon Seal Fire Department, Pike County Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Pike County Coroner.
