Just after 1 am, Portsmouth Police responded to a report of someone screaming for help in the 1400 block of Gallia.
When officers rolled up on the scene, they reported the man was screaming and not making much sense. He told officers someone had poisoned him. Officers sent for an ambulance.
Police noticed he was keeping his hand in his pocket and acting strangely, so they searched him for weapons and emptied his pockets. A tobacco can fell out of the man’s pocket. Officers found a crystal substance and a baggie inside.
Upon opening the can, one of the officers said he felt something hit his eye. An ambulance transported the man to SOMC for treatment, and the officer also went there to have his eyes checked out.
