Falling temperatures meant Portsmouth Officers had to deal with homeless people bedding down inside businesses.
Just before 3 am, police were back to the lobby of the Portsmouth Post Office, which is a favorite spot for campers. You’ll remember that one woman even tied the door shut to keep officers out. This time, the campers moved along when the officers told them to leave.
Police were back at Alexandria House for another complaint of a homeless camper in the common room. An officer gave the man a ride to the homeless shelter. However, just two hours later, they got another complaint about a homeless individual. That man left before the officers arrived.
Officers returned to Alexandria House on the day after Christmas when callers reported that the same man they had taken to the homeless shelter was sleeping there again. When officers spoke to the man, he claimed he was staying with a cousin. Police advised the woman to talk to PMHA about the issue.
