There can be a fine line between discipline and abuse, and officers were called in to investigate a report that attempts to discipline a child had gotten out of control.
It all started when a woman called 911 to report a domestic violence incident involving a child. She said she was sitting with family members on the front porch and heard her child scream.
She said the child said an adult in the home had hit her hand really hard. Officers noted that the child’s hand was bright red with a whelp on it.
The adult woman in the house admitted to smacking the child. She said the girl threw a toy at another child, and she meant to smack her gently on the hand. The woman said after she smacked the child, she realized she’d hit her harder than she meant to and that she was very upset about it.
Officers collected pictures of the child’s injury and took information for a report they planned to send to Lawrence County Child Protective Services.
