Abandoned House Goes Up in Flames in McDermott

Just before 5:30 pm, witnesses reported smoke pouring out of a house on Hulet Street in McDermott.  

When the Rush Fire Department arrived, heavy smoke was reported, and assistance was requested from other departments.  

Within a few minutes, the structure was fully engulfed. Firefighters asked dispatch to contact utility companies and the State Fire Marshal.  

First responders had the flames under control by 6:15 pm, and AEP arrived to shut off electricity forty minutes later.

Firefighters requested a deputy to take an arson report.

Officers determined the property was owned by Fifth Third Bank and was in the process of foreclosure.
