Just after 5 am, a Type 1 Diabetes patient called for help for a medical crisis.
Dispatch called twice for a squad with no response and turned to EMT Oho. They did not have a squad available.
Dispatch contacted Portsmouth Ambulance, who initially said they were en route but later called back to say they couldn’t cover the run.
Dispatch then contacted Pike County for help but didn’t get an answer.
The dispatcher called the family back and told them they were trying to locate a squad and asked if the family was able to get the patient to the ER. The caller said she had three small children asleep at home and wasn’t in a position to drive to the hospital.
Portsmouth Ambulance gave dispatch a direct number for the Piketon crew, but that number had been disconnected. After multiple attempts to call the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, a Pike Squad said they would cover the run.
