Are Schools Still Providing Meals for Students?

Since nearly every school in Scioto County has temporarily moved online, many parents are wondering if the meal plans schools implemented back in the Spring are going to reopen to provide lunches for students. Luckily, it seems that most schools in the county are offering some sort of food for their students, though the details vary from district to district.

Washington-Nile – The Washington-Nile school district is providing meals to students on a weekly basis throughout the month of December. Students can pick up meals from specific locations listed on the district’s website on the 3rd, 10th, and 17th. Beyond this, no dates have been posted regarding meal pickup.

Northwest – There was very little information on the Northwest school website regarding their meal plan, but it does seem as though the district has a food pantry program that allows students and their families to pick up food every Wednesday.

After we published this article, an employee sent us this information. “Northwest Local schools is delivering meals to students. They get a breakfast and lunch meal delivered in a bag every day to the student’s bus stop,( not like last school year where we had designated pick up spots) along with paperwork, homework, chrome books, ETC. Whatever is needed to be sent to the students that parents can’t come to pick up”

Wheelersburg – Wheelersburg is actually offering a meal delivery service in which the school’s bus drivers deliver the meals to students in need. This is a very interesting program and seems fairly well implemented by the district.

Valley – Valley schools are actually not closing until after Christmas break, but once they do close they are offering meals for students to pick up on Mondays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. The district asks that parents contact them if they plan on picking up meals for their children.

Portsmouth – Portsmouth schools will be providing meals to students on Mondays and Wednesdays during the remote learning experience. They can be picked up from multiple locations listed on the school’s website.

New Boston – New Boston is slightly different from most of the other districts in that they will be providing warm, freshly cooked meals to students daily Monday through Thursday from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. Most of the districts are providing uncooked or perishable foods to students that can be prepared at home.

Minford – Minford’s meal plan has not been posted anywhere, but according to the most recent announcement on their website, the school sent out a call to all parents regarding the details of their meal plan.

Green – Green schools have chosen not to move to online learning this winter, and so their meal plan will remain the same as it has throughout the school year.

Scioto County Career Technical Center – The vocational school is also remaining open and so has not updated their meal plan.

Clay – Clay local schools are providing meal deliveries to students similarly to Wheelersburg. These meals can be picked up from five specific locations, which can be found here.

South Webster – South Webster has not closed at this time and also has not updated their meal plan.

Notre Dame – Notre Dame has not closed at this time and also has not updated their meal plan.
