Another Gallia Street business called Portsmouth police after a front window was smashed during the overnight hours.
At approximately 1:20 a.m., a burglar alarm sounded at AutoZone and reported that glass had been broken near the front of the store.
When an officer arrived, the front window had been knocked out.
Police checked the building but did not find anyone inside. The officer photographed the damage and remained at the scene while someone connected with the business was contacted.
A representative arrived shortly after 2 a.m.
The report did not say whether anything was stolen or whether police found evidence that someone had entered the store.
The damaged window is the latest problem reported by businesses along Gallia Street.
In recent weeks, police have responded to complaints involving camps behind stores, fires in wooded areas, suspected drug activity, people sleeping near businesses, customers being harassed, public intoxication, and individuals living in vehicles on private parking lots.
Several business owners and managers have told police that employees, cleaning crews, and customers no longer feel comfortable approaching some properties.
Now, AutoZone is dealing with overnight property damage on top of the continuing public safety concerns affecting the Gallia Street business corridor.
No arrest was reported, and the investigation into the broken window remains open.
