Shoppers who rely on government assistance programs could see big savings on fresh fruits, vegetables — and even streaming services — under a new discount program launched this week by Kroger. But those savings come with a catch: customers must sign up, verify eligibility, and enroll in Kroger’s digital programs to access the deals.
Kroger’s new Verified Savings Program offers eligible customers 20% off fruits and vegetables and half-price Boost by Kroger Plus memberships. The program is available to recipients of assistance programs such as SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, and others, with eligibility verified online through SheerID, a third-party verification service.
How the food discount works
To receive the 20% produce discount, customers must:
- Have a Kroger digital account
- Enroll in the Verified Savings Program
- Complete online eligibility verification
Once enrolled, the produce discount is automatically loaded to the customer’s account and applies to all fruit and vegetable purchases through January 31, 2026. Eligibility must be reconfirmed every five months to stay enrolled.
Grocery delivery — and streaming — tied to Boost membership
Verified Savings enrollees can also receive 50% off Kroger’s Boost membership, a paid program that includes grocery delivery and other perks.
Discounted Boost pricing includes:
- Boost Essential: $34.50 per year or $4.50 per month
- Boost: $49.50 per year or $6.50 per month
Current Boost members can redeem the discount at renewal.
Boost benefits include:
- Unlimited free grocery delivery on orders of $35 or more
- 2× fuel points, including during fuel promotions
- A streaming option for Disney+, Hulu, or ESPN+ (with ads) for annual Boost members
- Member-exclusive offers throughout the year
More digital tools — and more enrollment
Kroger is also promoting additional digital features tied to its loyalty program, including:
- OptUP™ FoodHealth Scores in the Kroger app to compare nutrition options
- One free 30-minute virtual dietitian visit for Kroger Plus members, aimed at meal planning and budget-friendly shopping
All of these services require online enrollment and account access, part of Kroger’s broader push to connect discounts, delivery, and added perks through its digital ecosystem.
While Kroger says the program helps make healthy food more affordable, shoppers should be aware that the biggest savings depend on signing up for multiple programs and maintaining ongoing eligibility verification.
