Bizarre ‘Rehab’ Kidnapping Reported in West Portsmouth
Witnesses reported a bizarre scene in West Portsmouth on Thursday night. They claimed that some people in a dark SUV grabbed a man, shoved him into the back seat, and claimed they were taking him to rehab.
Concerned neighbors contacted the man’s family, who called the Sheriff’s Office. The family said they had checked local rehabs and were told he was not in any local facility.
Officers headed out to speak to the neighbors and to check the man’s house but could not locate him. Police took information for a report.
Later in the evening, Portsmouth Police responded to an overdose on 7th Street, which officers suspected might be the missing man.
Cops Bust Man for the 5th Time in Less Than Four Months
Officers took a 29-year-old man into custody for the 5th time since the end of December after catching up with him at the Oasis Convenient Mart on 17th Street.
Police arrested William Lee Nixon on charges of obstructing official business, violating a protection order, criminal damaging, disorderly conduct, and menacing.
Officers arrested Nixon on December 29 for criminal trespass, on January 28 for menacing, on February 22 for violating a protection order, and on March 7 for disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. On those previous charges, he was almost always immediately released.
This time, bond was set at $53,800.
Bizarre Behavior on Rosemount Road
Just after 5 pm, officers received a call from a woman who witnessed a strange scene on Rosemount Road when she was driving by.
The witness spotted a woman passed out in a yard, who then got up and got into a van with a man. The man began banging his head on the vehicle.
The witness requested a wellness check. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate anything suspicious.
Tragedy on High School Road
A person performing a welfare check on an elderly couple made a tragic discovery just after 5 pm. They discovered an elderly man unresponsive in an empty bathtub after an apparent accident.
The concerned person had tried to contact the man, who lived with his wife who suffers from dementia, the previous day without success.
EMS personnel determined that the man had indeed been dead for some time. The coroner gave permission for a local funeral home to take possession of the deceased.
