Two young sisters found the courage to speak out about ongoing abuse in their home, telling a deputy that their mother regularly beats them with sticks, slaps them in the face, and threatens them when she’s angry — sometimes just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The report began when a concerned grandmother called 911, pleading for help and explaining that the children were afraid to go home. She met deputies at a residence along County Road 119 and asked that they hear the story directly from the girls.
💔 “She Hits Me Wherever She Can”
One of the sisters, speaking privately to a deputy, said this has been going on “for a while.” She claimed:
- Her mother hits her with sticks — “on her arms, legs, wherever she can.”
- She’s slapped in the face constantly, and her mother “acts like nothing happened.”
- The beatings sometimes happen when she fails to complete chores, but “sometimes she just flips.”
- The mother takes out her anger about her dad on the girls.
- The child also described domestic violence between her parents, saying she saw her mother hit her father with a baseball bat.
The girl said she had fresh marks on her back and legs from being beaten the previous night.
😢 “She Beats Us Every Day”
Her sister backed up the allegations:
- Said her mom beats her every day, especially after returning home angry.
- Reported being slapped, thrown to the ground, and abused alongside her sister.
- Explained the girls previously lived with their grandmother after a past incident.
The girls told the deputy they were terrified of going back home and feared retaliation.
👵 Grandmother’s Plea for Help
The grandmother told deputies:
- One of the girls called her the previous night, crying for help.
- She wanted to pick them up, but the children begged her not to—afraid it would make things worse.
- She had photographs of injuries, though some marks had faded by the time deputies arrived.
⚠️ If You Suspect Abuse, Don’t Wait — Here’s What to Do
This heartbreaking case is a reminder that kids are often too scared to speak up. If you suspect abuse:
- Trust your gut. If something feels wrong, report it.
- Call 911 if a child is in immediate danger.
- Contact Children Services or the Ohio Child Abuse Hotline at 1-855-OH-CHILD.
- If you’re a child or teen in crisis, the National Childhelp Abuse Hotline is available 24/7 at 1-800-4-A-CHILD.
Even if you’re not sure — report anyway. It could save a life.
Deputies collected information for their report. The investigation is ongoing.
