Shawnee State University is bringing back cheerleading as a club sport at the college and they’ve chosen a local high school coach to lead the program.
The university named Michelle Boldman, who is currently the varsity cheerleading coach at Notre Dame High School to lead the program.
According to the university, the goal is to make cheerleading a competitive sport able to compete with other universities.
Boldman said she was up to the challenge. “I’m very grateful and excited for this opportunity to lead the Shawnee State cheerleading program. Being named the head coach during the re-establishment of the cheer program is a pivotal opportunity to shape the program’s identity, build team structure, and create a positive team culture.”
Boldman has coached high school cheer for six years and won two UCS Camp Champion titles. She plans on working towards a co-ed program to make the team more competitive and enhance the connection between the squad and the audience at sporting events.
