A child was left behind at Winterfest and an alleged child predator was targeted by neighbors once again. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Man with Gun Spotted on Robinson Avenue
Just before 10 pm, a caller reported a man in dark clothes who appeared to have a gun near the Goodwill on Robinson Avenue.
Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anyone.
Breakdown Leads To Bust
A parolee had a very bad night. Not only did his truck break down, he also got arrested. At 11:32 pm, an officer spotted a man working on a broken-down truck at the Speedway on Gallia.
An officer stopped and started speaking with the passenger. When police ran the license plate number, it came back as belonging to a Jeep. The officer went into Speedway and found the driver in the bathroom.
After running his SSN, they discovered an open warrant for his arrest from the ODRC. Police took the man into custody and arranged to have the vehicle towed.
Alleged Predator Targeted Again
A 17th Street man who previously reported to police that neighbors were accusing him of being a child predator and drug dealer and vandalizing his apartment contacted police again just after 6 am.
He claimed someone threw a rock through his window and wrote on his windows and mailbox. Officers took information for a report.
Hey, That’s My Stuff!
- A Robinson Avenue caller contacted police at 2:30 pm to report a stolen bicycle. The bike was described as silver with black wheels.
- A woman contacted police at 6 pm to report her truck stolen. She said her boyfriend was using the truck and declined to press charges. Officers noted she seemed depressed and advised her on options for seeking help but she was not interested.
Kids Out of Control
A Thomas Avenue resident called police to complain about neighbor kids misbehaving. She said they were throwing things at her apartment.
Police spoke to an adult who said she would speak to her kids and tell them to stop the behavior.
Child Left Behind at Winterfest
At 6 pm, a 3rd Street caller reported an 11-year-old boy who wasn’t sure how to get home from Winterfest.
An officer drove the boy home, but his parent wasn’t there. Nearby family members told police the child’s parent was aware of when the event ended and was supposed to pick him up.
Officers were unable to contact the mother. The relatives said this was common behavior.
Officers called CPS who told them to leave the child with the relatives and they would investigate further in the morning.
