Portsmouth Police responded to an active domestic situation just after 10 pm on Saturday night. A male was on top of a woman in an attempt to prevent her from leaving with her child, according to the dispatch center.
Three Portsmouth police officers responded quickly to the call. According to them, the male had fled and was possibly hiding in another apartment.
When police located the suspect, they identified him as Carl Pruitt. There were no active warrants against Pruitt, but police were warned that he had a restraining order against him and a caution for armed and dangerous behavior.
Pruitt reportedly explained to officers that the restraining order had been modified to include living arrangements. After reviewing the order, police did not find enough evidence to back up his claims.
A notification was sent to Adult Parole, as Pruitt is currently under their supervision.
