County Resident Dies After Ambulance Wait
A Scioto County resident died after no local ambulance crews had the necessary equipment to transport them to the hospital.
Medics first responded to the home just before 11 am for a report of a patient with skyrocketing blood sugar. The squad treated the patient and left, but someone from the home called back at noon, saying the patient was not acting right and asked that the squad returned.
A squad immediately responded to the page. However, they did not have the necessary equipment to transport the larger-sized patient. Dispatch contacted Portsmouth Ambulance and another squad in search of a bariatric cot – which is designed to lift larger patients, but one had the equipment available.
Just after 12:30 pm, the caller contacted dispatch again to report that the patient had likely passed away.
Deputies contacted the coroner, who agreed to release the deceased to a local funeral home.
