It’s no secret that Scioto County Children Services has been struggling to maintain a full staff to investigate the startling number of cases of child abuse and neglect reported to them every month. In 2023, Scioto County Job and Family Services Director Tammy Moore Morton said the agency investigated 2,000 cases of abuse and neglect. The director has also been vocal about the challenges of finding and keeping the people required to carry out the stressful job.
Now the county says the agency is urgently seeking Children Services Caseworkers for both the Investigations Unit and the On-Going Unit. According to the job posting, the positions require a degree in a human service-related field or five years of equivalent experience. However, those hired with related experience will be required to eventually obtain a bachelor’s degree.
Duties include receiving and responding to child abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse complaints, as well as helping families obtain needed services. Frequent travel and after-hour work will be required.
The starting pay for this position is $20.41 per hour. The agency suggests this is a perfect opportunity for seniors majoring in Social Sciences, psychology, sociology, or a human services-related field.
To connect with potential applicants, agency director Tammy Moore Morton will be at the Tammy Education & Social Sciences Career Fair on February 21 at Shawnee State University. Qualified applicants can submit a cover letter and resume to [email protected].
