Portsmouth Man Arrested For the 67th Time
ShareTweetEmail

PPD and CPS teamed up to help two kids left behind at a motel and helped a woman get rid of a guest who refused to leave. We break down the headlines of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Grand Theft Auto

A Highland Avenue caller reported her vehicle stolen from Party Time just before 2 am. She said a man took the car without permission and refused to return it. She called back 10 minutes later to say the man returned it and she no longer needed the police.

The woman contacted officers again at 2:19 am. She said the man did not return the vehicle and she was now at his 14th Street home. She wanted officers to stand by while she retrieved the keys.

When police arrived, they spotted the man attempting to flee out the back door. An officer took him into custody.

Worried Stepdad

A worried stepfather called police at 3 am to report his daughter had been assaulted at a Robinson Avenue apartment.  When police arrived on the scene, they found the woman highly intoxicated.

She was unsure if she’d been assaulted but appeared to have no injuries. Police noted damage to the door frame of the apartment. The woman told police she did not want to press charges. Her stepdad picked her up to take her to his home. Police secured the door the best they could manage.

Suspicious Vehicle

A Vinton Avenue caller reported a suspicious vehicle sitting at Vinton and Hutchins for two hours with the headlights on.

When officers arrived on the scene, they arrested a man for failing to maintain control. Police booked him and transported him to the Scioto County Jail. They arranged for the vehicle to be towed.

Under The Influence

  • At 8:10 am, police were on standby while Portsmouth Ambulance was on the scene at a 7th Street home for a man with a drug and alcohol-related problem. There were several intoxicated individuals on the scene. An ambulance transported the man to the hospital.
  • At 3:46 pm, police responded to a report of a woman overdosing on Kendall Avenue. The Fire Department later advised police they didn’t need assistance.
  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Valley Street just before 4 pm. They discovered a worried family had attempted to get a woman to stop using drugs. At first, the woman claimed to not be on drugs. She later agreed to go to a treatment center.
  • Officers responded to a report of a man lying on the ground near Portsmouth Elementary. He advised police he was homeless. They thought he appeared to have some mental issues but he told them he didn’t want to harm himself or anyone else.

Parking Crackdown

A man narrowly missed having his vehicle towed from Wayne Avenue at 11:14 am. Police spotted a pickup blocking the handicapped space in front of 1804. They said it had no visible registration. The owner arrived just as the tow truck showed up and explained he needed to jump the vehicle. Police issued a citation. The tow truck did not take the vehicle.

BBs, Bow, and Arrows.

A Park Avenue caller complained about a couple of boys in the area shooting BB guns and a bow and arrow.

The caller said the kids had taunted their dog and almost hit their son with an arrow.  Officers could not locate the kids at first, but later caught up with them and advised them to behave.

Kids Left at Motel

A sad situation at the Royal Inn on Kendall Avenue. Just after 2 pm, an adult contacted CPS and asked them to come to get an 11-year-old child. The caller said the boy was throwing a fit in a motel room.

CPS dispatched a caseworker and asked PPD to respond to the scene. There were two kids on the scene. However, their legal guardian, their mom, was nowhere to be found. Police and CPS were unable to contact her.

CPS removed both children from the scene.

The Guest That Wouldn’t Leave

Police responded to a Harrison Street home to do a welfare check on two kids at 8 pm. The kids were fine but mom needed help getting rid of an unwanted guest.

Her sister-in-law’s boyfriend refused to leave the home. He told police he had nowhere to go but agreed to leave in the morning.
