A car crash ignited a brush fire on US 52 just before noon. Deputies, EMS, and the fire department responded to the blaze on the right side of the highway.
Officers learned the fire was caused when a vehicle crashed into the guardrail and kept going, setting off sparks that ignited the hillside.
Officers located the truck at the intersection of Upper Twin Creek Road and found that it had been abandoned.
Dispatch also requested help from the South Shore Fire Department. However, they were fighting a fire in Kentucky and could not assist. Members of the Washington Fire Department responded to assist.
The fire seemed to be out but rekindled about half an hour later. Members of the forestry service took care of the forestry service arrived around 3 pm to take care of it. It reignited again just before 9 pm before the fire department finally extinguished it.
