The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a tragic and fatal crash that occurred on July 29, 2023, at approximately 1:11 pm. The accident took place on US 52 near Weaver’s Gas and Lazy Villiage Campground.
According to the preliminary investigation, Joseph L Winn Jr, a 24-year-old resident of Portsmouth, Ohio, was riding a 2003 Honda CBR900 motorcycle on US 52 eastbound. Meanwhile, Brittney Frye was operating a 2008 Ford Focus on US 52 westbound. Tragically, Ms. Frye turned left into a private drive and collided with Mr. Winn.
As a result of the collision, Mr. Winn suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Scioto County Coroner’s Office. Nile Twp FD, and EMT Ohio provided assistance at the scene.
Troopers from the crash reconstruction team are actively working to piece together the events leading up to the tragic accident as the investigation continues.
