Now and again, you see social media posts about alleged animal theft rings in the area, though many of the claims are thin on proof. Deputies were asked to look into allegations that a humane agent was taking and selling animals.
It started when the humane agent asked to speak with a deputy about someone who had accused her of taking animals from people and selling them. The woman had posted the allegations on Facebook.
When officers spoke to the woman, she cited incidents that had happened in other counties. Officers advised her they could not take action on things that happened outside of their jurisdiction but that if someone’s animal was taken and sold, they needed to contact the sheriff’s office immediately to report the theft.
