Scioto County deputies helped New Boston police track down a man accused of assaulting someone with a motor vehicle in a vehicle-vs-pedestrian hit-skip.
According to the sheriff’s log, SCSO and New Boston police dispatch located an address for a suspect after a vehicle struck a pedestrian in New Boston and left the scene.
Deputies responded to that address and found the suspected vehicle.
The log said the vehicle had visible damage to the front passenger side.
Deputies detained one man at the scene.
According to the log, the man tested .19, more than twice Ohio’s legal limit for drivers.
New Boston police responded to pick up the suspect connected to the vehicle-vs-pedestrian hit-skip, and Ted’s Towing was called to impound the vehicle.
Aaron Hatfield was booked into the Scioto County Jail on charges including vehicular assault, assault, domestic violence, hit-skip, and OVI.
The charges make this far more serious than a routine crash report.
Investigators are alleging someone was assaulted with a vehicle, the driver left the scene, and the suspect was under the influence when deputies found him.
Hatfield appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where he was appointed a public defender.
He is due back in court Sept. 3.
Court records show Hatfield was arrested for menacing in February, but that charge was later dismissed.
The charges are allegations. Hatfield is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
