When the Scioto County Dog Warden went to check out a report of animal neglect, they discovered an issue involving a small child.
A report came in about 8 am, saying that there were three dogs chained up with no shelter on Dodge Street and that one of the dogs might actually already be deceased.
When the Dog Warden arrived about two hours later, they noted that the animals had no shelter. When they knocked on the door to inform the owners, they found a small child home alone and called into dispatch to report the issue.
Dispatch said there’s no age limit on a child being left home alone. The dog warden left a notice for the parents that the dogs must have shelter.
Deputies dealt with another issue involving dogs just after 5 pm. A Possoum Hollow Road Caller said her neighbor’s dog had come onto her property and repeatedly chased her cows. She said she’d already called the Dog Warden but wanted a deputy to talk to the neighbor.
An officer responded to the scene, spotted the dog o the property, and spoke to the owner. The owner promised to keep the dog on a leash.
A Carey’s Run Pond-Creek Road dog owner called 911 to complain he’d allowed his pit bull to run loose, and it had disappeared. He said he just learned his neighbor shot the dog after it got into his chickens.
Dispatch explained that the neighbor was within his rights to protect his chicken.
