Dollar General planned for Minford

A small piece of land transferred from Scioto County to Harrison Township Trustees will provide a home for a planned Dollar General and guarantee access to Bennett Cemetery in Minford.

The planned development was announced at Thursday’s Scioto County Commissioners meeting as Commissioners explained why they had agreed to transfer a small sliver of land next to Bennett Cemetery to Harrison Township. The corner lot was for many years, access land for CSX Railroad.

According to County Commissioner Bryan Davis, the land hasn’t been used in years. He said the County has been working for some time on getting the land turned over to the township, but because of the connection with the railroad, it was a long process and had to go through a lot of hands. Davis thanked CSX for their cooperation and being a great partner with the county and the township.

Now that the land is in the hands of the township, the trustees can work with the developer to bring new retail to Minford. It was announced at the meeting that the plan is to open a Dollar General on the land.

Additionally, transferring the land back to the township will guarantee public access to the cemetery and the Grange Hall. While people have been able to gain access without an issue, transferring the land to the township ensures public access.
