An intoxicated father put his child in danger, two panhandling brothers pestered folks on Gallia, and a man died after a drug overdose on Center Street. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Man Dies From Overdose

Officer responded to a report of an overdose in a Center Street backyard just after midnight.

SOMC notified police the patient did not survive around 40 minutes later. Police contacted the coroner for further investigation.

At 7:30 am, SOMC called to ask for permission to release the body to the family.

Hit and Run

A silver vehicle hit 3 parked cars in the 1600 block of 11th Street and fled toward Kendall and Gallia at midnight.

Thirty minutes later an officer spotted a car they suspected was involved in the accident at Woodbine Apartments and called for a tow truck.

An officer did speak to the vehicle’s owner on the phone. However, he said he wouldn’t come to the scene because he had an open warrant in Kentucky.

At 1:51 am, employees of Richard Noggins called to complain of a disruptive patron who mooned their bouncer and hit the building with her vehicle when she left. Officers notified the Greenup County Sheriff’s Office to watch out for her.

Suspicious Activity

Panhandling Problem

One of two brothers known for aggressive panhandling on Gallia was spotted behind the Silver Palace after a report he’d been harassing customers at AT &T.

Officers could not locate him.

At 4:28 pm, a caller reported one of the brothers acting erratically in the Aldi parking lot. He then moved across the street at Speedway.

A few hours later, another brother was spotted at McDonald’s. An officer once again advised him to stay away from businesses and stop harassing customers. He left the area.

At 2:47 pm, witnesses reported a highly intoxicated man at 17th and Grandview who had a little girl with him. Police took him into custody and contacted the child’s mother.

She met officers at Mound Park. The woman has full custody of the child and was upset that family members allowed the intoxicated dad to take the child.

Police turned the child over to the mom and took the man to jail.
